Beat The Budget!
On October 30th, Chancellor Rachel Reeves will formally announce her first budget and submit it to the House. We expect, that on this occasion, there may well be some quite hefty increases to tobacco duty which will lead to price rises across all tobacco products, irrespective of format.
Unfortunately, we can neither predict what may happen nor avoid it when it does, however, we can help to try and mitigate any potential increases by suggesting that you buy now to try and stave off the price hikes for as long as possible!
We have featured a small selection of products below, however, increases, if any, will more than likely be across ALL TOBACCO products not just those noted below.
Oscar Valladares Tobacco & Co Leaf By Oscar Maduro Robusto - Single
LEAF by Oscar cigars represents perhaps one of the most exciting developments in premium cigar smoking to come along in quite a while. Developed by Oscar Valladares at his boutique factory in Danli, Honduras, each LEAF cigar represents a deep connection between the land on which the tobaccos were grown and all of the people who contributed to its production. Even the bands are made by a company local to the factory using organic agave to craft the paper. Instead of cellophane, the Torcedors have laid each stick inside of a leaf of tobacco for ageing and protection.
These are medium to full-bodied with great intensity. Deep and earthy with notes of dark bitter chocolate, coffee and some gentle spice on the finish. Sublime!
Ramon Allones Specially Selected - Single
Tried February 2019 + April 2021
One of the most consistent Cuban brands in terms of build quality and smokeability. Dating back to 1837, which makes it one of the oldest cigar brands on the planet, Ramon Allones is a heavenly smoke. These start off-dry with an almost floral, grassy note before the flavour intensity starts to kick in - I found this to be a gradual experience. These are quite bold and well developed with a gorgeous, long, earthy finish. Takes me back to drinking Cuba Libra in the grounds of the Hotel Nacional in Havana. Awesome.
Eann Wallace 9.3/10
A very powerful cigar, with a complex range of flavours throughout. It begins with roasted and slightly woody and leathery undertones with floral hints, leading into a slightly sweet cocoa & coffee ending. Not for the beginner but ideal for the experienced smoker after a heavy meal.
Gawith Hoggarth Ennerdale Flake - 25g Loose
Ennerdale flake is comprised of 86% Virginia from Brazil, Zimbabwe and Malawi, 10% Malawi Sun Cured & 4% Burley. This aromatic base is then cased with an Almond, Vanilla, Fruit and Gawiths own "Special" English style flavour, resulting in a slightly sweet, slightly floral flavoured cool & smooth smoke. If the flake is a little dry it will burn a lot easier and reduce the need to keep puffing to keep alight, and reduce the chance of tongue bite. For those looking for a less scented Ennerdale we stock both Grasmere Flake & Dark Honey Dew.
Agio Meharis Red Orient - Pack of 10
Similar to the Java, but with the added touch of sweetness. These are the best selling Meharis within the range. It's not hard to see why.
Plasencia Reserva Organica Alma Fuerto Sixto II - Hexagona - Single
Quite possibly one of the most unusual cigars around being hexagonal in shape. Scoring an impressive 93 points in Cigar Aficionado in 2017, it was ranked as the number 9 cigar of that year. Comprising of an all Nicaraguan filler wrapped in a Nicaraguan Habano wrapper to produce a rich, quite dense, complex smoke delivering flavours of nuts, spice and cocoa. There is a gorgeous leathery note on the finish too! The build and construction are top notch.
Chacom Chacom No.2 - 50g Tin
A bright pipe tobacco blend based on a various Virginia and broken Virginia known for their refined natural sweetness. The mixture is rounded off with a small proportion of fragrant Burley and delicate black Cavendish (a sweet and fermented tobacco). A delicious but subtle flavor of fruity yellow plum and sweet vanilla is added which refines the blend.
Rocky Patel Aged Limited & Rare (2nd Edition) Robusto - Single
This is certainly one of the more impressive sticks that I have tried this year and is certainly in my top 10, if not my top 5. From the first sight, you can see that this is going to impress. The silky looking San Andreas wrapper looks shiny and the earthiness of the dry draw is perfect. Light it up and it transports you to another place. The earthiness is there but more in the background as the lead is taken by some wonderful nutty notes and a smattering of dark chocolate. This is another contender for my top 10 for sure!
Gawith Hoggarth Black & Brown - 50g Loose
A sweet and frangrant smoke, ideal for beginners. Cocoa and Vanilla flavours, combined with the smooth blend of tobaccos, makes for a great smoke.
Oliva Serie V Melanio Figurado - Single
Tasted June 2021
This is one of those cigars which really is the real deal. Medium to full-bodied, it starts initially with a burst of sweet leather, spice and nuts and progressively moves towards coffee and earth as you smoke down the stick. There is good intensity in the flavours which persist until the last draw. I love the shape and the fact that it is box-pressed too - it just ticks all my boxes!
9.4 / 10 Eann
Trinidad Topes (plus FREE Goodie Bag with each ORDER) - Single
A welcome return for the extremely popular 2016 Limited Edition, but this time as a permanent addition to the classic range. A stout yet nuanced cigar brimming with Trinidad charisma. This is my personal favourite Trinidad Cigar and is well worth looking out for.
Partagas Serie D No 4 - Single
This has always been a perennial favourite of ours. It is certainly a full-on cigar and, to the uninitiated perhaps a little too much, but the complex array of flavours and aromas are certainly worth the effort. A perfect accompaniment to a fine Champagne Cognac!
"Earthy and floral, this attractive robusto picks up creamy chocolate-like notes buttressed by coffee bean and a hint of coconut" - Cigar Aficionado, August 2014, 92 Points
The Sutliff Tobacco Company Great Outdoors - 25g Loose
It is perhaps ironic that a blend named Great Outdoors should be appreciated for its room note. This outstanding aromatic is a mixture of burley, vanilla, and flavoured black cavendish. Perfect for fans of Field and Stream.
Charatan 160th Anniversary Special Edition - Single
IN THE GRAND YEAR OF 1863, a gentleman by the name of Frederick Charatan graced bustling London with a boutique to delight the most discerning tobacco enthusiasts. Nestled in Mansell Street, near the iconic Tower of London - decades before Tower Bridge was even dreamt of - a legacy of tradition, an ode to flavours and enamouring smoke was born.
For 160 years, the name Charatan has been synonymous with British love for exquisite tobacco in the form of premium hand-rolled cigars, pipe tobacco and handcrafted pipes. As historic and meaningful to the United Kingdom as London's Underground and the English Football Association, both of which were also founded in 1863, we do not take the remarkable heritage of Charatan lightly.
To celebrate the 160th anniversary Charatan has released this wonderful, extremely limited, Special Edition. Join us in celebrating the exceptional journey of an immigrant family name now quintessential in British culture.
The Charatan 160th Anniversary cigar is a brilliantly smooth and tastefully creamy masterpiece. This cigar measures an impressive 6 ½ x 44. The wrapper is Ecuadorian Connecticut, Binder is Mexican and the Filler is Nicaragua (Jalapa). This is VERY LIMITED with only 250 boxes of 16 available to the whole of the UK.
Oliva Serie G - Cameroon Tin - Pack of 5
The Serie G Maduro is a medium-bodied blend made with African Cameroon wrappers. The unique flavour notes of this wrapper are complimented by the natural richness of Nicaraguan Habano fillers. Medium strength with cedar and coffee notes. The Cameroon wrapper will allow this cigar to develop with age.
Hiram & Solomon Master Mason Maduro Toro - Single
A full-bodied blend with a velvety Maduro wrapper. Notes of sweet leather and cocoa produce a rich flavour enhanced only by a pronounced cedar aroma that lingers on the finish.
Ogdens St Bruno - Flake - 50g Pouch
This blend of dark Virginia & Kentucky produces a powerful rich smoke with a subtle sweet undertones. The flake will generally produce a slightly stronger more flavoursome smoke compared to the ready rubbed. Out of the "Supermarket" brands, St Bruno has a big following. Many of our smokers use this as a base for blending some interesting mixtures such as St Bruno & Gold Block or St Bruno & Alsbo Ruby.
La Invicta Robusto - Single
A very easy going smoke that offers up some slightly sweet earthy characteristics. Mellow and gentle.
Montecristo Club - Pack of 10
Made in the ICT factory in Cuba, using the same tobaccos found in the larger Montecristo cigars. These medium full flavoured cigars are ideal for those who only have time for a very quick smoke. Compared to the Minis, the club cigars smoke a little cooler due to the larger size.
Great as a gift for anyone who enjoys the smaller Dutch and other European cigars.
Liberation World Cigars Pack - Pack of 6
This wonderful sampler pack contains 6 different cigars from 6 different countries from around the world. As one can imagine flavours can vary immensely from country to country and this little pack, hopes to show the differences. La Aurora Principe Coronas Blond - Pack of 5
Made by one of the best cigar producers in the Dominican Republic, La Aurora, these Vanilla flavoured cigars offer up a decent 10-15 minute smoke that is nicely balanced and not too cloyingly sweet. Quite aromatic and elegant.
McChrystals Original (Extra Large) - 25g
The biggest selling snuff in our shop for decades and its easy to see why. This slightly moist Medicated snuff has been used down the pits of the Nottingham area since its creation in 1926. Flavoured with Menthol, Eucalyptus, plus subtle hints of Citrus & Spices make for great mentholated snuff.
Tin Size - 25g Moisture - Medium/Moist Colour - Brown Ground - Fine/Medium
Quorum Robusto - Single
A great value 'budget' cigar. Light to medium-bodied with some gentle, nutty notes.
Cohiba Siglo IV - Single Tubed
As with all Cohiba Siglo cigars the flavours are little smoother and creamier compared to other Cohibas. The Siglo IV has the reputation of being one the best from the Siglo Range (the Siglo VI is outstanding too). The larger 46 gauge allows more flavours to saturate the palate with rich & complex flavours. Distinct grassy, herbaceous flavours are very prominent, with creamy sweet bean flavours making their presence known throughout the cigar. Definitely not for the inexperienced or Dominican smoker due to rich flavours and long smoking time. This, the tubed version, will keep fresh for up to 6 months
