New Cigars From Cuba
After what seems like an age, we are finally pleased to see some new and interesting cigars coming from Cuba, including some, where the wait has been longer than intended!
The third Limited Edition release of the year is the Partagas series 1 Edicion Limitada 2017. Yes it is a bit late, but it has finally arrived in the UK. If you are into more robust styles of cigars then Partagas is the one for you. Using a selection of the finest tobacco's from the finest tobacco growing regions in the world, these limited Partagas will go quickly.
Despite being a little late, Punch Regios de Punch is sure to receive a warm welcome from cigar smokers across the world, but in particular from within the UK where the brand has the most loyal and fond following. These were due to be released in the late summer last year however, Cuba being Cuba, delays were always going to be expected. The tobacco used has all been selected from some of the most highly prized plantations within the four main tobacco growing regions of Cuba, and the leaves have then all undergone a minimum of two years ageing in bales before being rolled. These light to medium bodied beauties are a delight to smoke as the shade grown wrapper gives a softer, silkier styled cigar than one would normally attribute to Punch.
The Punch 48 which came out in October last year, is also a pretty interesting smoke. These are a tad lighter in style than your common, everyday Punch, offering up some soft floral notes, hints of nuts and a light, almost coffee-like character, all squeezed into a gorgeous, glossy Cuban wrapper. Pretty to look at, wonderful to smoke.
Another lighter bodied release is this, the H Upmann Robusto Anejados. The term Anejados literally means aged, and that is precisely what has happened here. Aged for between 5 and 8 years prior to release, the ageing makes the cigar more mellow, allowing all those flavours and natural oils to meld together and become one. Just like a fine wine, cigars can improve with age and this shows wonderfully how it can be done.
Por Larranaga is one of the oldest Cuban Cigar producers being established in the 1830's. Although one of the oldest, they are also one of the smallest, as a result, they have very few vitolas available. Having said that, the Por Larranaga Montecarlo is new and is taking the cigar cognoscenti by storm! These are medium bodied with a rich, and dare I say, voluptuous character. Now long, thin cigars usually aren't my bag, but on this occasion, I am turning a blind eye.
Finally, just thought that I should mention that I have one solitary box of Cohiba Behike 52's in stock. Rarer than hen's teeth, you will need to be lightning fast to get these.....
Punch Regios de Punch is the latest Habanos Edicion Limitadato arrive from Cuba albeit a few months late. They are presented SLB's of 25 cigars and this is only the second time that Punch has been selected to represent the Limited Edition concept (Punch Serie D'Oro No.2 being the first). The vitola is new for the brand and as usual, the cigars are dressed in dark wrappers and come adorned with a second band. Although presented in Sliding Lid Boxes we are also selling them as single sticks too! The tobacco used has all been selected from some of the most highly prized plantations within the four main tobacco growing regions of Cuba, and the leaves have then all undergone a minimum of two years ageing in bales before being rolled. Despite being a little late, Punch Regios de Punch is sure to receive a warm welcome from cigar smokers across the world, but in particular from within the UK where the brand has the most loyal and fond following.
Introducing the Punch Punch 48. This vitola(size) has never been represented in this brand until now and is available only to La Casa del Habanos and Havana Cigar Specialists.
Made with the finest tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo region and presented in varnished boxes of 10, this Tripa Larga (long filler) measures 5½†x 48 ring gauge and is an exciting introduction to this long-established Habanos brand. This is medium bodied in style and a little less earthy than Punch normally are. They also have an almost floral note to them which lifts the flavours somewhat.
PorLarranagais a brand with a long history. Founded in 1834, it enjoys a well-earned reputation for its consistency and good presentation. Por Larranaga cigars are handmade using tobacco grown in the Vuelta Abajo region. Presented in dressed boxes of 25, the Montecarlo measures 6¼“ x 33 ring gauge and is the latest addition to the UK Por Larranaga portfolio. The cigars are TripaLarga(long filler) and carry the distinct aromas found in this light to medium brand.
The H.Upmann Robusto is the latest brand and vitola to be added to the ANEJADOS or Aged range, a concept which was first introduced by Habanos s.a.in 2015. This iconic size joins the Montecristo Churchill, R&J Piramide, Partagas Corona Gorda and Hoyo Hermoso No.4 and like these cigars, the size presented is not found in the current standard parent brand portfolio (H.Upmann). Like its predecessors, the cigars have been box aged for between 5 to 8 years in the perfect climatic conditions of Cuba. This will afford the cigars a mellow, more refined taste as the blend of the filler leaves meld together over time realising their full potential. The cigars are presented in dressed boxes of 25 and carry a second band to identify that they are ANEJADOS. There is also a sticker on the box lid and like other Habanos Specialities, supply is limited to the quantity initially laid down to age.
After many years of work, Cohiba Behike is finally in the markets starting April 2010. Considered to be Cuba's best-kept secret, Cohiba Behike is produced each year with the best Cuban tobacco coming from San Juan y Martinez (D.O. P, Protected Denomination of Origin) and San Luis (D.O.P) inside the Vuelta Abajo Region (D.O.P) in extremely limited quantities in the prestigious El Laguito factory. Its blend incorporates for the first time the Medio Tiempo, a leaf that attributes to the cigar exceptional character and flavour.
The Medio Tiempo is a very scarce leaf coming from the two upper leaves of the sun-grown tobacco plant. However, not all these plants produce both. The sufficient availability of Medio Tiempo to be used in regular production depends on the dedication, care and attention paid to each tobacco plantation and growing of each plant, considering the changing climatic conditions as well.
