Joya De Nicaragua are not only one of my favourite cigar producers, but are also one of the most innovative producers within the industry too. Founded back in 1968 in the village of Esteli, Joya was the first cigar producer to set up a factory, in what is now the capital of the Nicaraguan cigar industry. Like the ever-changing cycles of the moon, the fortunes of Joya De Nicaragua have waxed and waned over the years as the result of revolutions, hurricanes and earthquakes. However, Joya being the resilient company that they are, have had more comebacks than Frank Sinatra and are currently going through a very successful period.
Over the last few years under the watchful eyes of Dr Alejandro Cuenca and Juan Martinez, Joya has gone from strength to strength. The range has increased and the variety of different styles produced have also increased. One of my current favourites is the Numero Uno. This is a wonderful medium-bodied cigar that was specially created to be handed out to world leaders by Nicaraguan ambassadors on official missions around the world. Inadvertently, some members of the media got a hold of a few sticks and word quickly spread about how good they are. Bowing to pressure from the public, Joya was forced to make these available to cigar lovers around the world, which they have done, albeit in a limited fashion!
Joya De Nicaragua Joya Black Robusto - Pack of 20
Joya De Nicaragua's newest addition to the range is the Joya Black. Medium to full-bodied in style, these offer up some big rich flavours and a slightly sweet edge on the finish. There is some earthiness to them with some nutty notes in there too. All in all, a really wonderful smoke at a quite reasonable price.
Joya De Nicaragua Numero Uno Le Premier - Single
Now here is a very interesting cigar with a bit of history behind it. Made by Joya de Nicaragua, the Numero Uno was originally blended to be handed out to world leaders by Nicaraguan ambassadors on official missions around the world. In 2018, to commemorate their 50th Anniversary, Joya gifted some of these awesome cigars to people in the media and to special audiences. Feedback was absolutely fantastic and earned Joya their highest rating in 50 years from the cigar press! Because of this success, Joya decided to officially release it as part of Obras Maestras, the designation of their ultra-premium family of cigars.
This 'masterpiece' cigar provides medium body and strength, in a smoke that is refined, complex and elegant. The creaminess is complemented with light pepper notes, making it a top-ranked, exclusive, diplomat lifestyle experience. Literally.
