Cigar Club
Drew Estate Cigar Evening 14th November 2018
Our second to last cigar evening of 2018 will take us all the way to Nicaragua, albeit via a cigar or two and a wee tot of Rum!
We will be featuring two cigars by one of the biggest producers in Nicaragua, the mighty Drew Estate. Set up by Jonathan Drew & Marvin Samel in the late 90's, Drew Estate is one of the most forward-thinking cigar companies around and has built up an enviable reputation for being extremely innovative. Drew Estate brought the world infused cigars and although they may not be to everyone's taste, it has allowed them to be quite experimental in their approach.
The first cigar will the be Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured Fat Molly. The unique thing about the Fat Molly's is the addition of fire-cured tobacco's from Kentucky and Virginia. Normally, tobacco's used in cigar production are air-cured in big drying houses, but the tobaccos used here are cured in specially constructed curing barns where they fire cured. This process makes for a rich, smoky hickory character that is quite sweet and very long on the finish. Not only that, although the flavours are big and bold, the smoke itself is quite rounded and almost silky in texture.
The second cigar is an altogether different beast. It will be the Drew Estate Unico Serie Liga Privada L40 Lancero. Now I could wax lyrical about these quite intense cigars all day but here is the brief from the Drew Estate website to whet your appetite.
''In our ongoing creation of the Liga Privada line, hundreds of different, distinct blends and vitolas are crafted in our endless search for the perfect smoke. Most samples are dismissed with only a rare, select few being deemed worthy, but regretfully due to tobacco limitations, costs, and construction limitations, most of these blends cannot be made into their own stand-alone line.
However, they are so perfect in flavor and aroma, we continue to selfishly make them for ourselves to smoke. This is not our desire; we want the Liga Privada connoisseur to enjoy the very same cigars we smoke regardless of any reason.
With this in mind, we have created the Liga Privada Unico Serie – a home for these unique ones. All of the cigars within this series are not only different in size and blend, but they are extra special, extremely limited and exceptionally delicious.''
Not only will there be cigars, but we will also be pouring a little bit Rum to help keeps us warm. Flor De Cana 12 years will be the Rum of choice and my colleague Chris has provided the following tasting note ''A lovely depth of lightly oiled dried fruit, treacle, toffee and again that botanical freshness. Quite spicy and peppery on the middle with a touch of brown sugar. Lovely smooth finish with the botanical spirit giving it a bite.''
Places for this evening will be limited to 30, and we have already pre-sold some, so you will need to be quick!
