Cigar Evenings 2024
Undoubtedly, some of the most eagerly anticipated events in the Gauntleys (social) calendar are our cigar evenings. Starting way back in 2012, our cigar evenings have grown steadily over the years and now cater for 50-plus people on a good night. Run in a relaxed and informal way, you will be guaranteed to have a great evening! Each event is structurally the same, however, the cigars and brands featured will change every month. There will nearly always be a guest host who will join us on the night to talk us through their cigars and occasionally we have a cigar maker join us too. Over the years we have been delighted to have been joined by the likes of Rocky Patel, Nick Perdomo, Robert Caldwell and E P Carrillo to name but a few and all of whom have been very entertaining in their own, unique way.
The evenings are educational, so you can ask as many questions as you want throughout the evening or, if you are inclined, you can just sit and enjoy the cigars as they are, the choice is yours. Did I mention that these evenings are quite social too? Many long and lasting friendships having been formed over the years purely down to the cigar evenings, so it makes it worthwhile just for that!
The dates for the 2024 Cigar Evening Calendar are below and are now set in stone, we will look to announce the 2025 dates early January!
Gauntleys Cigar Club La Galera Cigar Evening - October 9th 2024 - Single
For our October event we will be focusing on the cigars of one of the Dominican Republics biggest producers, La Galera. Established almost 100 years ago, La Galera produces a stunning array of extremely good quality cigars at very affordable prices. Currently owned by Jose ‘Jochy’ Blanco alongside his son José Manuel Blanco, the Galera brand is focused on the quality.
Joining us on the night will be Phil Matthews of Bright Leaf Ltd (the UK distributor) who will guide us through the cigars. On this occasion I am not revealing what cigars will be on tasting, but I will reveal it will be a THREE CIGAR event! Phil hopes to bring along a couple of other exclusive cigars on the night, if they arrive into the UK on time...we will keep our fingers crossed.
The venue will be the Trent Navigation, Meadow Lane, Nottingham.

Gauntleys Cigar Club Cigar Evening - November 13th 2024 - Single
For our November 24 event, we will be taking a journey to Central America and visiting one of the top cigar making countries in the world, Nicaragua. Nicaragua has been at the fore-front of New World cigar production since the late 1960's when the first major cigar manufacturer, Joy De Nicaragua set up a factory in Esteli, Nicaragua's cigar capital. Although their story has seen many up's and down's, they, along with more than 100 other companies continue to thrive.
We will be featuring one of Joya's latest releases, the Cinco de Cinco toro (rrp £29.10). This stunning cigar is rich and and moderately full flavoured and has quite a unique story behind it, which we will tell on the night. Our second featured cigar will be the Charatan 160th Anniversary (rrp £27.40), one of my favourite cigars of recent month's.
We will be joined by Helen Groome from TOR Imports, who offer an insight in to both cigars, there production and their history. The evening is priced at £40 per person and will be held at the Trent Navigation, Meadow Lane, Nottingham, starting at 7pm. Disclaimer:-

Gauntleys Cigar Club Festive Cuban Cigar Evening - TUESDAY December 3rd 2024 - Single
This is the big one!
First off we are pleased to announce that going forward, ALL our cigar events we will now have HEATING! Yes, you heard it here first, heating and cover, so now that we have that out of the way what will be featured on our big festive herf?
Well this year it will be the cigars of Cuba. Cuba, without a doubt, has the best climate and soils for growing tobacco therefore can make some of the world's finest cigars. This year we plan to offer THREE cigars, which will be announced shortly, offering a range of styles - we are hoping to get something a wee bit special / unusual since this is our last event of the 2024 smoking season, so keep watching this space.
We will be joined by Tim Owen of Hunters & Frankau, the designated UK importers of Cuban cigars, who will be on hand to offer some background on the brands and some insight into the Cuban cigar industry. We have only seen Tim at one of our events this year (even though this is the fourth Cuban night), so it would be great to welcome him back in style.
We will of course have our usual raffle and since it's almost Christmas, the prizes will be step up from the normal offering. We also hope to bring our man Chris Goodrum along with our new Single Cask Whisky release, which you can all sample on the night.
So, Whisky, Cigars and heating....what more could you want?
